About URE

Our Mission
URE is committed to exceeding the energy needs and expectations of our consumer-members by providing safe, high quality and responsive service at fair prices.

Who We Are
URE is a not-for-profit, consumer-owned electric distribution utility headquartered in Marysville, Ohio. The cooperative serves residential, commercial, and large industrial members primarily in Union County, as well as portions of the five surrounding counties — Champaign, Delaware, Hardin, Logan, and Marion.

How We Operate
Even though URE provides electric power to its members, it is the membership that powers the cooperative. Members have a voice in the operation of their electric utility and vote for their board of trustees, a group of members who govern the co-op. Members have equal representation in URE despite their size or number of service accounts — one member equals one vote. We are particularly responsive to the needs and expectations of our members because they are also our owners.

Power Supply Portfolio
Buckeye Power, Inc., formed in 1959 and based out of Columbus, Ohio, is the generating cooperative supplying power to, and owned by the 24 electric distribution cooperatives, including URE.

The cooperatives have invested a significant amount of money to make Cardinal Power Plant, the coal-fired power station near Brilliant, Ohio, among the cleanest units in the world.

COAL is our main source of power.
NATURAL GAS is used for peak generation.
RENEWABLE SOURCES equal approximately 5% of supply.
