Claims Inquiry Process

Union Rural Electric Cooperative (URE) strives to provide safe, reliable electric service and to conduct its operations in a manner that protects the public and member property. While we work hard to prevent problems, situations may occasionally arise where a member experiences property damage, equipment damage, or other loss and believes URE may be responsible. If you believe URE may be responsible for damage or loss, you may submit a Claims Inquiry Form for review.

Each inquiry is evaluated individually based on the specific facts and circumstances involved. Submission of a Claims Inquiry Form does not imply that URE is responsible for the damage or loss, nor does it guarantee reimbursement.

Some inquiries involve circumstances that are outside URE’s reasonable control or otherwise fall within the limitations of responsibility described in URE’s Terms and Conditions for Supplying Electric Service. Examples of circumstances that may fall outside URE’s responsibility include:

  • Severe weather, acts of God, or other natural events, including lightning, wind, ice, flooding, extreme temperatures, and similar conditions.
  • Vehicle accidents involving utility facilities or other actions of third parties that are outside URE’s reasonable control.
  • Animal contact with electric facilities.
  • Vandalism, theft, or other criminal acts.
  • Power supply interruptions, transmission disturbances, or other events originating outside URE’s distribution system.
  • Planned or unplanned service interruptions necessary for public safety, system restoration, maintenance, repair, or preserving the reliability and integrity of the electric system.
  • Damage to sensitive electronic equipment associated with power interruptions, voltage fluctuations, surges, transient events, or other power quality disturbances. The Cooperative cannot guarantee uninterrupted service or power quality suitable for all sensitive electronic equipment.
  • Landscaping, vegetation, fencing, walls, shrubs, or other obstructions that must be removed or disturbed to access, operate, maintain, repair, replace, or restore electric facilities where permitted by easement, right-of-way, or service requirements.

These examples are provided for informational purposes only and are not intended to be an exhaustive list. Each inquiry is reviewed on its own facts and circumstances.

Our Commitment

URE is committed to reviewing all claim inquiries promptly, fairly, and objectively. If an investigation determines that URE is responsible for a loss or damage, appropriate action will be taken based on the facts of the situation.
