Safety Programs and Community Partnerships
URE offers various educational programs to schools and other community organizations like emergency management services. These programs include safety demonstrations and energy education. Safety Demonstrations*
We offer free live electric line safety demonstrations to schools, first responders and other community outreach organizations. During the demonstrations, our employees present steps to stay safe around electric hazards. Viewers learn about common electric dangers like balloons and animals contacting electric lines and view a simulation of what happens when a live power line touches a car door. The demonstrations are about an hour long and will need to be performed in an outside area with access to a breaker panel.

Tabletop Power Town*
This presentation is narrated by URE’s safety coordinator and demonstrated by URE line technicians. With “hot” lines and fun props, the team teaches the dos and don’ts of power lines. The presentation can be geared to any audience – from elementary school to professional first responders.

Energy Hour*
Energy Hour is for any age group and can be customized to fit your needs. This hour-long visit to your school or classroom can include a safety demonstration, touch-a-truck, and/or an energy education presentation. Our energy education presentation can include information about electric generation while utilizing our energy bike, and/or information about renewable and non-renewable energy sources while utilizing our energy relay game. Employees facilitating this program can range from our director of communications, lineworkers, and our safety coordinator.

Cooperative/Career Talk*
This program is mostly geared towards high school students. A cooperative employee will speak with your classroom about our high school sophomore and junior Youth Tour trip, senior scholarships, and career opportunities within a cooperative. Our engineers, operations crew, and lineworkers can attend to speak about their careers. This session can be anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour.

Facility Tour*
Do you have an organization or group interested in visiting the cooperative? Contact us to schedule a facility tour to get a more detailed look into operations.

Touch-A-Truck*
Touch-a-Truck is for students from preschool to 5th grade and allows students to take a deeper look into a URE bucket truck. This school visit can also include a safety demonstration and a conversation with students about what a lineworker does each day. Touch-a-truck can range from 10 to 20 minutes per group and must take place outdoors.

Energy Day* (coming soon)
Energy Day is for groups between 6th and 7th grade. This program gives teachers the opportunity to get their students out of the classroom to discuss energy. Energy Day consists of eight 20-minute stations discussing solar, wind, and energy efficiency with a safety demonstration, energy relay games, an energy bike, and our Green Energy Solar Machine. Energy Day can be customized to be anywhere from three to five hours long. Energy Day can be hosted at our office or at your school.
