In May, Union Rural Electric (URE) used advanced technology to conduct detailed aerial patrols of our lines and infrastructure. Partnering with Firmatek, a provider of aerial mapping and inspection services, URE utilized state-of-the-art drones to perform comprehensive inspections.
During these aerial patrols, drones were flown at low speeds and low altitudes to thoroughly inspect URE-owned infrastructure in the Raymond and Jerome areas. This innovative approach allows for a more thorough and accurate assessment of our lines and equipment.
The use of drones in these patrols offers several advantages. By capturing high-resolution images and data from multiple angles, drones can detect potential issues that might be missed during traditional ground inspections.
During these inspections, a total of 184 poles were examined, which resulted in 53 poles being identified as having discrepancies ranging from overgrown vegetation and split pole tops to conductor issues, damaged hardware, and unknown joint use attachments.
This proactive approach will enable URE to address these maintenance needs quickly and efficiently, minimizing the risk of outages.
