While storms, wind, and vehicle accidents are obvious threats to our infrastructure, another growing concern often goes unnoticed — unauthorized items attached to our utility poles.

THE HIDDEN DAMAGE
Every time a nail, screw, staple, or bolt is driven into a utility pole, it weakens the structure and creates an entry point for moisture, insects, and decay. Over time, this damage can shorten the lifespan of the pole and compromise its strength and stability.
A RISK TO LINEWORKERS
Unauthorized attachments can snag, tear, or damage safety gear such as insulated gloves, climbing equipment, or flame-resistant clothing.
Even something as small as a misplaced screw or staple can increase the risk of injury while crews are working near energized power lines.
Attached items can also block visibility or interfere with safe access to equipment during outages and emergency repairs.
